Loss of ‘Classic Arts’
The dumbing down of KCET’s programming continues. Latest victim: “Classic Arts Showcase,†axed without any notice to subscribers. CAS provided early-morning hours excerpts of classical music (lots of opera!), ballet, the visual arts and classic films.
A telephone answerer at KCET told me CAS cost a quarter of a million dollars a year to present and could not fit the budget. I’ll accept that as far as it goes. I cannot accept the hatchet job on CAS when you consider the money KCET has wasted on garbage like rock and doo-wop documentaries and the posturings of millionaire New Age health gurus in an effort to enlarge its viewer base.
KCET needs to realize that its core audience is one that prefers quality entertainment, information and education.
The loss of “Classic Arts Showcase†is an insult to that audience.
