Quick, how does the Agulhas Current differ from the Benguela, Peru, Labrador and California currents? If you’d forgotten that the Agulhas carries warm ocean water and the others are cold, you would have stumbled at the 2001 International Geographic Olympiad in Vancouver, Canada.
Kyle Haddad-Fonda, 14, of Bellevue, Wash., knew, which was one reason he and his U.S. teammates defeated teams from Canada and Hungary to win the event, sponsored by the National Geographic Society.
