Tranquility Lake Proves Best From Start to Finish
Any doubts about who was going to win the $108,600 Wilshire Handicap Sunday at Hollywood Park were erased shortly after the start.
Once Tranquility Lake, the even-money favorite, was able to make the lead without pressure and jockey Eddie Delahoussaye was able to slow things down to almost a crawl, the 6-year-old daughter of Rahy was all but home.
After running the opening quarter in 24 4/5 and the first half-mile in 48 4/5, Tranquility Lake completed the final four furlongs in a rapid 46 seconds flat in her first start of 2001.
Idle since finishing a close second to Tout Charmant in the Matriarch last Nov. 26, owner Marty and Pam Wygod’s mare won for the ninth time in 21 starts and pushed her earnings to $1,158,820.
Trained by Julio Canani, Tranquility Lake now has four wins in seven starts on the Hollywood Park turf course. The 123-pound highweight completed the mile in the Grade III in 1:34 3/5 while beating Dianehill by nearly two lengths.

License Fee ($9.20) went over the $1-million mark in career earnings with a five-length win over 19-10 favorite Lady Melesi in the $300,000 Sixty Sails Handicap at Sportsman’s Park.
