Three Die in Unrelated Accidents

A pedestrian, a motorcyclist and a man checking on his disabled car were killed in three separate traffic incidents Sunday in Orange County, authorities said.

In Stanton, a man crossing Beach Boulevard near Katella Avenue around 1:50 a.m. was struck by a white car in an apparent hit-and-run, Sheriff’s Lt. Larry Abbott said.

The victim, whose identity was not immediately released, was believed to be from Mexico. He died at the scene.

Investigators were unsure of the make of the car or how fast it was going, Abbott said.

About an hour later, Justin Scott Aaron of Orange was killed while inspecting his stalled car on the Costa Mesa Freeway near the border of Tustin and Orange.

Aaron, 21, apparently got out to check the left side of his Toyota, which had come to a stop on the northbound fast lane of the freeway near Fairhaven Avenue, CHP dispatcher Bryan Bruning said.

Another vehicle also traveling northbound struck the right side of Aaron’s car shortly before 3:10 a.m., pushing it into the victim and killing him.

Bruning said it was not clear Sunday whether the driver of the second vehicle was at fault. The investigation is continuing, he said.

CHP investigators were also investigating a crash that left a motorcyclist dead in the Cleveland National Forest.

That incident occurred on Ortega Highway near the San Juan Ranger Station about 11:40 a.m., a CHP dispatcher said. No further details were immediately available.
