The Irvine financial services holding company, whose principal subsidiaries are WFS Financial Inc. and Western Financial Bank, reported earnings of $17.7 million, or 55 cents a share, for the first quarter, down from $20 million, or 75 cents a share, a year ago, which included a one-time gain of $5.8 million on the sale of mortgage servicing rights. Revenue increased 16% to $124 million. WFS Financial Inc. reported record earnings of $18.8 million, or 66 cents a share, for the first quarter, a gain of 27% from $14.8 million, or 54 cents a share, for the 2000 period. Revenue increased 21% to $102.1 million.
