Edison Chief’s Compensation Cut in Half

John E. Bryson, chairman and chief executive of Edison International, saw his compensation drop by more than half last year as the company’s utility subsidiary, Southern California Edison, sank deep into electricity debt.
Bryson, 57, received $1.04 million in salary and other compensation in 2000, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing Thursday. In 1999, Bryson’s salary and other compensation totaled $2.24 million, including a $1.26-million bonus.
Edison set its annual shareholders meeting for May 14 at the DoubleTree Hotel Ontario.
Shares of Rosemead-based Edison fell 42 cents to close at $10.98 on the New York Stock Exchange.
Also, Sempra Energy set its annual meeting for May 1 in New York. An informational meeting for Southland investors will be held May 4 at the Irvine Marriott.
