Orange Coast Defeats Bakersfield in Baseball Tournament
Matt Clanton and Mark Courvoisier combined on a six-hitter and Orange Coast College defeated Bakersfield, 3-0, in pool play at the Sequoias baseball tournament Wednesday in Bakersfield.
. Clanton struck out eight over six innings, and Courvoisier earned his third save of the season.
Freshman Greg Trimble had three hits to pace the Pirates.
In the Hancock tournament:
Cypress 7, Cuesta 1--Steve Yaden hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning, wiping out a 1-0 deficit, and finished with three RBIs for Cypress (22-12)
Manny Diaz went 7 1/3 innings to pick up the victory for the Chargers, striking out 10. Cypress lost to Hancock, 4-1, in an earlier game.
In the Palomar tournament:
Golden West 5, Moorpark 4--Joe Burgett scored from third on a delayed double steal in the ninth inning to give Golden West (12-19) the lead.
In the Fullerton tournament:
Santa Ana 13, Oxnard 5--Tony Alcantar, Aaron Escobedo and Mikela Olsen hit home runs as Santa Ana (27-6) collected 19 hits and scored in every inning but the seventh.
In nonconference men’s volleyball:
Golden West 3, Palomar 0--Setter Brian Costanzo had 36 assists for host Golden West, which won, 25-18, 25-19, 28-26.
