* When: 1 p.m. today, Channel 7.

* Track: Long Beach street circuit (temporary road course, 1.968 miles, 11 turns).

* Race distance: 161.376 miles, 82 laps.

* Last year: Paul Tracy moved from 17th to victory, pulling away at the end for his 16th career win. It was the farthest back a winner has started on a temporary street circuit since Al Unser Jr. won from 19th in 1986 on the old downtown course in Miami.

* Last CART race: Cristiano da Matta, who replaced Michael Andretti on the Newman-Haas team, won the season-opening Telmex Tecate Grand Prix in Monterrey, Mexico. Da Matta came out on top in a mid-race battle with pole-sitter Kenny Brack, then held off series champion Gil de Ferran in the last few laps of the race that was shortened to 78--two fewer than scheduled--by a two-hour time limit.

* Fast facts: The best finish for a Toyota was third, last year by Jimmy Vasser. . . . Mario Andretti won the first four events at Long Beach (1984-87).
