Oxnard Airport Options

Oxnard Airport is the biggest waste of space and money in Ventura County. It is also the biggest threat to the continued enjoyment of the idyllic lifestyle afforded by our community.

While our mayor would like to see the airport closed and opposes building a casino, other City Council members just lie low. As the council considers building a casino, is it quietly working to reconfigure the Oxnard Airport into a regional airport to fly in the heavy rollers?

The Board of Supervisors behaves as if the airport were a valuable asset to the county, but it actually loses money and wastes valuable property that could be converted to more compatible, more profitable uses.

As a 23-year resident and homeowner in Oxnard Shores, I have made it my business to learn the options regarding the airport. There seems to be no way to absolutely restrict hours of operation, enforce noise abatement procedures or limit the type and size of aircraft flying into the airport.

Our elected officials must stop throwing our money away and gambling with our future. Close the Oxnard Airport now.

I have lived in Oxnard Shores for 11 years and have become increasingly concerned that airport operations seem to be expanding. Although I feel OK about the present operations I favor closing the airport.

Propeller pilots flying directly over our houses at their discretion is bad enough; the potential for jet traffic is horrifying.

I lived in the San Fernando Valley and know full well the potential for a downward spiral. Oxnard Airport could become as much of a nuisance as the Burbank Airport has become. We should learn from the Burbank experience. I say no jets and close the airport down now.
