David Gober rushed 16 times for 165 yards and four touchdowns, including an 81-yard kickoff return, as No. 10 Western steamrolled Whittier Pioneer, 48-0, Friday night at Pioneer High.

Gober dismantled the Pioneer defense during the first half, bobbing and weaving his way to the end zone from 27 and 25 yards out.

He also had an 84-yard touchdown run called back by a holding penalty.

Western also dominated the second half, scoring touchdowns on all five possessions, including an 81-yard kickoff return by Gober, a 56-yard run by Marvin Davis III and a two-yard run by Rodney Eason, who carried 17 times for 91 yards.

Pioneer quarterbacks Ricky Reyes and Bryan Ramirez each had passes intercepted on their first attempts of the game, forcing Mario Lopez to carry the offense on the ground. He rushed 19 times for 57 yards and was the only bright spot for the Titans.

Led by Eric Centanni, Western held Pioneer to 55 yards. Meanwhile the Western offensive line enabled its running backs to rack up 403 yards.

Kyle Stanley, listed as a linebacker on the team’s roster, took the snaps for Western and attempted one pass that was incomplete.
