Tribune to Sell AchieveGlobal for $100 Million
* Tribune Co. said it is selling its training and consulting firm AchieveGlobal to the Institute for International Research for about $100 million. Tribune, which owns the Los Angeles Times, said it will use the proceeds to reduce debt and repurchase stock. In June, Tribune acquired AchieveGlobal, a consulting firm for domestic and international businesses, as part of its merger with Times Mirror Co. Since the merger, Tribune has sold its education group to McGraw-Hill Cos. for $680 million and agreed to sell Jeppesen Sanderson Inc. to Boeing Co. for $1.5 billion. Tribune said it also is in the process of selling Times Mirror Magazines, publisher of special-interest and leisure-oriented magazines. Chicago-based Tribune said it expects after-tax proceeds from the four businesses to total more than $2 billion, offsetting the company’s $6.88-billion purchase price for Times Mirror. Tribune shares fell 13 cents to close at $39.75 on the NYSE.
