Police Will Target Illegal Alcohol Buys
Moorpark police are planning a sting operation to catch adults who buy alcohol for minors.
Complaints from parents prompted the sting, which could occur any time in the next six months, according to police.
Even if a person looks old enough to legally consume alcohol, deputies warn adults not to take that chance.
The law states that any person who sells or furnishes alcohol to someone under 21 is guilty of a misdemeanor. An arrest could result in a $1,000 fine and community service. Accepting extra money from a minor to buy them alcohol could result in two days in jail, a fine and probation.
The sting is part of the regulatory effort of the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.
