Tobacco Payoff
Re “In Novel Tactic, Lawyers Seek Nationwide Tobacco Suit,†Sept. 7: When some lawyers smell the big score, they really pull out all the stops! I wonder if these officers of the court would be so zealous if all they were getting was a pat on the back for informing people about smoking rather than the millions of dollars they actually expect to receive.
With all the real problems in our country (medical care, homelessness, drug usage, crime, etc.), you would think these guys and the government would find better ways to spend their time. But then, resolving real problems results in merely helping people and improving the quality of life--not in a big-money payoff.
