The Santa Margarita Water District has announced that it will contribute roughly $115,000 to a joint project with the El Toro Water District to increase their emergency water storage.
The money will be used to increase the storage capacity at the R-6 Reservoir in Mission Viejo, to be used in the event of an emergency like the pipe rupture that occurred last December.
The Santa Margarita Water District purchased half of the 233 million gallon reservoir earlier this year.
If the designs for the expanded reservoir are approved, the storage capacity at the site will be increased by more than 48 million gallons.
