It is expected to be overcast and wet for the remainder of the week, National Weather Service officials said Wednesday.

An early season storm was making its way south from the Central Coast and was expected to arrive in Ventura County this afternoon, bringing intermittent showers and up to half an inch of rain, officials said.

“It could be one of the first significant rains of the season, but there will certainly be stronger storms as winter goes on,†said Bruce Rockwell, a federal meteorologist. “But this one looks like it’s going to stay around for a few days.â€

Rockwell forecasted an 80% chance of rain for the entire county today through this evening, with sporadic showers Friday and Saturday. High temperatures will be in the 60s and lows will dip to the low 50s.

There were no advisories immediately issued, but Rockwell said waves of up to 6 feet would hit the coastline today.

Rockwell said the rainy season in the county usually doesn’t arrive until November.
