Four Players Added to Lineup for Tournament

Allen Doyle, Dana Quigley, Bruce Fleisher and David Graham have accepted invitations to play in the Hyundai Team matches, completing the Senior PGA Tour portion of the field for the Dec. 15-17 tournament at Pelican Hill in Newport Coast.

Doyle, winner of the Toshiba Senior Classic at Newport Beach Country Club in March, is paired with Quigley. Fleisher, the 1999 Senior Tour player of the year, will play with Graham.

The matches feature four teams from each of the three major American tours competing in three separate tournaments.

Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson return to defend the title they won last year. Gary McCord and John Jacobs have also committed.

The PGA Tour field includes defending champions Fred Couples and Mark Calcavecchia and Phil Mickelson and Rocco Mediate. Two teams are still to be announced. The LPGA Tour will be represented by three-time defending champions Juli Inkster and Dottie Pepper as well as Grace Park and Kelli Kuehne, with two teams yet to be named.

ZAKHAR WINS AWARD

Heather Zakhar of Coto de Caza won the Futures Tour Player of the Year award, given to the player who finishes first on the season-ending money list.

Zakhar, a three-time winner this year, finished tied for 10th Sunday at the season-ending Tour Championship, earning $1,809 for a season total of $34,804. Michelle Ellis of Sydney, Australia, was second with $32,575.

Zakhar secured a spot on the LPGA Tour in August when she won a tournament in West Virginia and was atop the money list at the qualification deadline. She has full exemption status for 2001.

IF YOU BUILD IT

The clubhouse construction project at Anaheim Hills took a step forward when the Anaheim City Council approved a consulting agreement with an architectural firm. The city has proposed a $6.2 million, 24,000 square-foot clubhouse to replace the 28-year-old facility currently in use. The Irvine-based architectural firm of Melzer, Deckert and Ruder also designed clubhouses at Coto de Caza and Coyote Hills.

BUY.COM IN SOUTHLAND

The Buy.com Inland Empire Open, the final full-field event of the 2000 season, begins Thursday at Empire Lakes Golf Club in Rancho Cucamonga.

Steve Runge, a Capistrano Valley High graduate, Ahmad Bateman of Huntington Beach and Stephen Stewart of Aliso Viejo are among the 156 players competing for a $400,000 purse. Stewart is one of 14 players who survived a qualifier on Monday.

Runge, who won a tournament in Richmond, Va., in May, is No. 37 on the money list. Bateman, who leads the tour with a 70.02 stroke average, is No. 48. The top 55 advance to the season-ending Tour Championship Oct. 23-29 at Highland Oaks Golf Club in Alabama.
