POMONA — A West Covina mother of five was sentenced Wednesday to 40 years to life in prison for fatally shooting her boyfriend in the back of the head at a Hacienda Heights motel.
Pomona Superior Court Judge David Milton sentenced Andrea Jean Krall, 38, for killing Elijah Johnson on July 15, 1999.
Krall and Johnson of West Covina had known each other for about two years the night she invited him to a room at the Motel 6 on 7th Avenue to discuss their son.
Prosecutors say Johnson was sleeping or resting on the bed when Krall shot him with a .40-caliber handgun, one of two guns she carried that night.
Krall went to the motel desk clerk and said she had just killed someone.
A Pomona jury convicted her of second-degree murder on Oct. 31 and subsequently determined she was legally sane.
Her attorney maintained she was a battered woman.
