Seeking a permanent home for the annual San Fernando Valley Fair, its board of directors has appointed three community members to co-chair the search for the ideal location at the Hansen Dam Recreation Area.
“There have been concerns about traffic and noise,” said Rob Wilcox, president of the Valley Fair Board of Directors, a governor-appointed body that currently has six members and three vacancies. “We want the full involvement and cooperation of the community.”
The three co-chairs--community leaders Marie Harris, Phyllis Hines and Nancy Snider--will determine how many people will be on an advisory panel that will make a recommendation to the Valley Fair board. The panel members will be volunteers and under no deadline to identify a location, Wilcox said.
However, the board will decide by January where to hold next year’s fair, Wilcox said.
At least 12,000 people attended the 54th annual Valley Fair in June at the Hansen Dam Equestrian Center, Wilcox said. The fair featured animal auctions, rodeos and a three-man Dixieland band playing banjo, trombone and tuba.
