* “Economic Boom Leaves Disabled Workers Behind” (Nov. 18) notes that some critics of the Americans With Disabilities Act claim that it has hurt rather than helped disabled employment. Similar cries, that the intended beneficiaries were in fact hurt, have greeted almost every measure advancing human rights, from the abolition of slavery to child labor laws to workplace safety laws. Far from indicating that the ADA is too strong, as such critics would have us believe, the abundant data presented in the article suggest that the ADA needs to be defended and strengthened.
