OCC Reaches State Final in Men’s Soccer

Orange Coast’s Chris Wimmer scored in the 18th minute as host Orange Coast advanced to the men’s soccer state championship game by defeating Rio Hondo, 1-0, in the Southern California Regional finals Tuesday.
Wimmer’s goal came after he took a pass from Josh Miller and beat Rio Hondo goalie Erik Krause from 10 yards out. Orange Coast goalie Hilario Arriaga held off the Roadrunners (14-8) from there, finishing with 11 saves.
Orange Coast is 18-3-4 after winning only three games last season.
In another men’s soccer State Regional final:
Santa Ana 3, El Camino 1--Alejandro Licea and Fernando Rojas scored two minutes apart late in the game as two-time defending state champion Santa Ana (19-1-4) returned to the championships.
The state championships begin December 2 in Lemoore.
In the Southern California women’s regional final:
Cypress 1, San Diego Mesa 0 (OT)--Rebekah Rogers scored 11 minutes into overtime to lift the Chargers, who are going for their third consecutive state title.
Angela Orr had four saves in the shutout for Cypress (25-0-1).
