A man and woman were killed after their sport utility vehicle crashed into a power pole and caught on fire in Agoura Hills on Wednesday night, the California Highway Patrol said.
In another accident Thursday, a 74-year-old Bakersfield man died in Santa Clarita, authorities said.
Wednesday’s accident occurred on Kanan Road, south of Silver Creek Road, about 10:30 p.m. when the driver apparently lost control of her vehicle, CHP Officer Becky Lynch said Thursday.
Witnesses said the vehicle was speeding and had been passing other cars before it hit a power pole and crashed into a dirt embankment, she said.
The driver, a 30-year-old woman whose name was not released pending notification of relatives, was wearing a seat belt, authorities said.
The man’s identity was unknown because his body was badly burned, authorities said.
Other motorists pulled the woman from the wreckage, but flames prevented them from getting the man out, Lynch said. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
In Santa Clarita, Donald Wassall was killed after his Ford Taurus was hit by a Toyota sport utility vehicle on Valencia Boulevard near the Golden State Freeway offramp.
Sheriff’s Lt. Larry Gump of the Santa Clarita station said Wassall ran a stop sign. The other driver was not injured.
