Whittier Christian found out why Cerritos Valley Christian is ranked fourth in the Southern Section Division XI poll, as it was held to 97 yards offense in a 46-0 Olympic League loss to the Crusaders Friday at Whittier College.
Valley Christian sophomore running back Chase Twedell rushed for 303 yards in 29 carries and scored four touchdowns. His first touchdown was a 69-yard run on the first play of the game.
Whittier Christian (3-7, 1-4 in league) did not have a first down until the opening play of the second half and only managed three yards in the first half.
The Heralds began the second half on their 37-yard line and went to Valley Christian’s 13 on nine plays. However, Sam Paulescu missed a 30-yard field goal.
That would be the closest Whittier Christian would get to scoring on a defense that has recorded four shutouts. Valley Christian has out-scored its five Olympic League opponents, 183-63.
Whittier Christian, which punted seven times and fumbled once, was led by Tim Albeanu, who had 60 yards rushing in 12 carries. He also had one interception.
The Crusaders (9-1, 4-1) scored on seven of nine possessions, including all three in the second half. They had 504 yards of total offense.
