GAME DAY
HIGH SCHOOL
* CHAMINADE (6-3, 1-1) vs. ST. FRANCIS (7-2, 1-1)
at St. Francis, 7:30 p.m.
Second place in the Mission League is at stake. St. Francis has become more balanced on offense, with the running of Matt Milton and the passing of John Sciarra. The Golden Knights are coming off their best defensive performance in a 13-7 loss to Notre Dame. It’s important they win tonight for playoff seeding reasons. They are ranked No. 5 in Division III. Chaminade will try to pull off an upset behind sophomore Erik Vose, who has passed for 1,578 yards and 20 touchdowns. Receiver Josh Jones has 13 touchdown receptions.
* KILPATRICK (5-4, 3-0) vs. PARACLETE (8-1, 3-0)
at Antelope Valley College, 7:30 p.m.
The teams met in the last two Southern Section Division XII finals. Paraclete, seeking a fourth consecutive section title, has won the previous six meetings with the Mustangs, including a 43-6 victory in last season’s final. The Spirits have won eight in a row since a season-opening loss to St. Bonaventure. Junior Curtis Brown has rushed for 1,225 yards and 13 touchdowns, and Erick Jackson has rushed for 616 yards and eight touchdowns to lead an offense that is averaging 374 yards. Kilpatrick is 4-1 with Jeremy Hartsfield in the lineup. Hartsfield has rushed for 1,011 yards and 18 touchdowns despite missing four games because of disciplinary reasons. He is expected to play tonight. Paraclete has not lost to a team in its division since 1996.
* ST. BONAVENTURE (9-0, 3-0) vs. CARPINTERIA (4-4-1, 1-2)
at Carpinteria, 7:30 p.m.
Five-time Tri-Valley League defending champion St. Bonaventure can complete its second consecutive perfect regular season and extend its winning streak to 24 games. The Warriors make a formidable opponent for St. Bonaventure with Chris Gocong in the lineup. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound option quarterback suffered a knee injury in the second game and missed the next four. Carpinteria was 0-3-1 during his absence, but have flourished since his return. The Warriors have won their last two games, including 20-18 over Nordhoff last week on an Ian Allen-Williams field goal in the final seconds. Gocong has rushed for 463 yards, passed for 322 and had a hand in 17 touchdowns. Receiver Scott Lopez, with 32 catches for 731 yards and 10 touchdowns, is his main target. The Seraphs continue to look unstoppable, averaging 430 yards. Lorenzo Booker, who averages 14.5 yards per carry, has rushed for 28 touchdowns and nearly 2,000 yards.
