Stockland, Burnley Spark Valencia

Marc Stockland scored three touchdowns and sophomore Charles Burnley, making his varsity debut, rushed for 147 yards in 19 carries to lead Valencia High to a 35-13 Foothill League victory over host Burroughs on Friday night.

Burnley, a transfer from Crespi, had been academically ineligible.

Stockland, a junior running back, finished with 114 yards in total offense. He scored on a nine-yard run to cap a nine-play, 80-yard drive to open the game.

Stockland, who rushed for 71 yards in eight carries, scored on a one-yard run midway through the third quarter and scored Valencia’s final touchdown on a 33-yard catch from Kyle Bauer on a deflected pass with 3:30 to play.

Bauer completed 12 of 26 passes for 210 yards and three touchdowns.

The Vikings (7-2, 3-1 in league play) had 479 total yards, including a 14-play, 93-yard drive capped by Nick Scott’s seven-yard touchdown catch on the last play of the first half for a 21-7 lead.

Burroughs (2-7, 1-3) got its touchdowns on a 15-yard run by Mike Perez and a 44-yard reception by Keith Jarbo from Lorin Salmon that pulled the Indians to within 28-13 on the last play of the third quarter.
