COMPTON — The highly successful boys’ basketball coach at Compton Dominguez High School has been put on paid administrative leave after his arrest in the alleged sexual assaulting of a minor.
Russell Otis, 38, was arrested Thursday and booked on suspicion of sexual battery and sodomy with a person under age 18, police said. He posted bail and was released.
The Compton Unified School District placed Otis on leave, pending the police investigation into the charges, said district spokesman Fausto Capobianco.
The team’s assistant coaches will conduct practices, which are to begin shortly for the coming season. The team, the Dons, posted a 35-2 record last year and was ranked No. 1 in several national polls.
