Chapman Wins Big in NCAA Playoffs

Chapman defeated UC Santa Cruz, 4-0, to win an NCAA Division III women’s soccer playoff game at Chapman Wednesday.
Stacie Lopez, with an assist from Cary Groseclose, scored Chapman’s first goal in the 10th minute. Aja Cordova scored the Panthers’ next two goals at 15 and 21 minutes. Nicole Madonia and Heather Reynolds assisted on Cordova’s goals.
Sara Struhs closed Chapman scoring in the 58th minute off an assist from Hannah Moore.
Kim Rudloff, who started for Chapman in goal, had to leave in the 48th minute because of an ankle sprain. She was replaced by Stacie Paraska, who had two saves.
The victory was Chapman’s 14th shutout of the season, a school record.
Chapman advances to the West Region Championships in Salem, Ore., where it will face top-seeded Puget Sound at 11 a.m. Saturday.
In the NAIA Region II men’s soccer playoffs:
Point Loma Nazarene 2, Vanguard 0--The host Crusaders advanced to the Region II semifinals as Vince Paccione and Tasi Musa scored second-half goals.
Matt Resor had four saves for Vanguard (10-5-1), which outshot the Crusaders, 13-11. Point Loma Nazarene is 12-5-1.
In nonconference men’s soccer:
UC Irvine 2, Cal State Northridge 1--Sabastian Galmarini scored with six minutes remaining to lift the host Anteaters (12-6-1). Jesse Peron scored UC Irvine’s first goal three minutes into the game.
In nonconference women’s volleyball:
UC Irvine 3, UC Riverside 1--Brooke Witt had 33 kills and 19 digs to help the visiting Anteaters (7-14) snap a 12-match losing streak, winning 15-17, 18-16, 15-6, 15-8. Irvine’s Teri Zartman had 56 assists and teammate Chanda McLeod had 15 kills and 16 assists.
