U.S. Gas Price Sets Record; Calif. Unchanged
The U.S. average price of self-serve regular gasoline reached a record $1.538 a gallon, up 1.9 cents from the previous week’s revised average, according to the Energy Information Administration’s weekly survey of 800 gasoline stations. In California, the average price was unchanged at $1.613 a gallon. California drivers are paying about 24 cents a gallon more than they paid last year. The U.S. average is 38 cents higher than a year ago and broke the previous record of $1.529 a gallon set March 20. The EIA, which is the statistical arm of the Energy Department, revised last week’s national average price for self-serve regular to $1.519 from $1.526. The most expensive gasoline could be found in the Midwest, where the average price of self-serve regular gasoline was $1.60 a gallon.
