Visiting 1,000 Places via One Web Site

Looking for the “official” word on your next destination? You can scan the Web pages of more than 1,000 cities and counties through the Internet site https://www.officialtravelinfo.com. The site is sponsored by the Washington, D.C.-based International Assn. of Convention & Visitor Bureaus, which represents about 480 such agencies, but the site offers links to nonmember agencies as well.
You can find information on lodging, restaurants, annual events and other facts; link with sites that give local weather, airport information and news; and, in some cases, make online hotel reservations.
The site has some glitches, though. England seems to be missing; when we clicked on “United Kingdom” last week, all we got were U.S. cities, and a search for “London” yielded only the St. Lucia Tourist Board and New London, Conn. But “France,” for instance, linked to three pages (Paris, Lyon and Nice), and “California” linked to 44 sites. A spokeswoman said the association is working to fix the glitches.
