The Planning Commission voted Tuesday to reject one request for a wireless phone antenna and approve another.
About 16 residents protested Sprint PCS/SBA Inc.’s request for a 74-foot-high wireless antenna at the Champions Sports Complex at Alta Vista and Jefferson streets.
“We don’t consider this a minor facility,” said Jill Martinez, one of the residents opposing Sprint’s antenna. “We already have too many poles there.”
Commissioners did approve plans for a 40-foot antenna at the Imperial Rose Shopping Center at Rose Drive and Imperial Highway. That project, proposed by Nextel Communications, would place two palm trees on either side of the antenna to disguise it.
