Driver, 19, Killed When Car Hits Concrete Pillar
A 19-year-old Yorba Linda man died after his car slammed into a concrete pillar and exploded, authorities said Thursday.
Adam Boden was driving west on Esperanza Road in Yorba Linda about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday when his 1997 Chevrolet Camaro hit the center divider, then the concrete support for the Yorba Linda Boulevard overpass, Brea police traffic officer Keith Watson said.
The car exploded, throwing pieces of the vehicle more than 120 feet into the eastbound lane of Esperanza, Watson said. Police closed the street for several hours to clean up.
Brea Sgt. Martin Needham said a couple in another car witnessed the accident and told officers that Boden had passed them going about 100 mph.
