Seminar on Date Rape

Re “Women Encouraged to Learn Self-Defense,” March 16.

[The Times] did a wonderful job covering the date rape seminar at CSUN. One little catch, though. When describing how I struck someone with an elbow strike, it was actually to the face, and not to the chest. I point this out because a strike to the chest is an improper technique and ineffective. The strike, using proper technique, goes to the face.

Thank you for [reporting on] such an incredible program. Hopefully, women anywhere in the city will enroll in the program and take the time for themselves. How much is your personal safety worth to you?
