A local man authorities described as a notorious graffiti artist was arrested this week for allegedly defacing a wall with a symbol that also has appeared on several walls, buildings and one church in the area.
Orange County sheriff’s deputies arrested Peter Palcsik, 22, late Tuesday afternoon after a resident called to report he was using a marking pen on a wall under a bridge near Olive and Orange avenues.
The resident detained Palcsik until deputies arrived, said Sgt. Roger Neumeister of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
Palcsik was drawing the word “Kartel,” a moniker that was also found spray-painted on a wall of the Abiding Savior Lutheran Church on El Toro Road, Neumeister said.
He added that the word isn’t a known gang symbol.
Palcsik was booked into the Orange County Jail on Tuesday on suspicion of vandalism, Neumeister said.
