Starr Leaps to School Record in Savanna’s Win
Savanna senior Reanita Starr set a school record in the triple jump, leaping 38 feet 2 1/2 inches as the Rebels defeated Sonora, 67-56, in a nonleague girls’ track and field meet Thursday at Savanna.
Starr broke the record of 37-7 1/2 she set last year at the Mt. San Antonio College Relays. Starr also won the 200 meters (26.9) and the long jump (17-8) for Savanna (1-0).
In other nonleague girls’ track and field:
Aliso Niguel 69, San Clemente 63--Sophomore Marquita Taylor won the 100 (12.2) and 200 (25.6), and sophomore Jackie Anderson pulled off an unusual combination, taking first in the shotput (34-6 1/2) and the pole vault (7-6).
In nonleague boys’ track and field:
Woodbridge 70, Santa Ana 66--Sophomore Will Banks won the 100 (11.3) and 200 (23.1) and ran the first leg of the 400 relay (45.3) for host Woodbridge (1-0).
In nonleague badminton:
Villa Park 13, Long Beach Millikan 6--Connie Hwang, Mesinee Mangkalakiri and Mike Chansawangpuvana swept their singles and mixed doubles matches for Villa Park.
In nonleague golf:
Capistrano Valley 197, Laguna Hills 210--Casey Peet shot par 36 at Aliso Viejo to medal for Capistrano Valley (3-0). Matt Williams shot 37 and Alex Canetti shot 38 for the Cougars.
Costa Mesa 395, Calvary Chapel 462--Costa Mesa senior Jeff Montoya had six birdies and shot three-under 68 at Mesa Linda.
Esperanza 410, El Dorado 424--Jay Choe shot eight-over 78 for Esperanza (1-0) over two courses, Western Hills and Yorba Linda.
Irvine 391, El Toro 399--Jon Freidman shot one-over 73 and Andrew Kim shot 74 for Irvine (1-0) at El Toro Marine Base and Oak Creek.
Pacifica 198, Magnolia 223--Justin Ritchey medaled for visiting Pacifica, shooting a two-under 33 at Dad Miller.
Servite 383, Brea Olinda 389--Nico Bollini shot two-over 72 for Servite at Los Coyotes and Western Hills.
In nonleague girls’ swimming:
Canyon 133, Valencia 37--Katie Sackett won two individual events, anchored the winning 200 medley relay team (2:03.5) and swam the first leg for the winning 200 freestyle relay team (1:48.2) for host Canyon (1-0).
In nonleague boys’ swimming:
Valencia 91, Canyon 81--Freshman Ryan McNiell won the 100 butterfly (56.43), the 500 freestyle (4:58.47) and swam on the winning 200 medley relay (1:49.85) and 400 freestyle relay (3:31.03) for host Valencia (1-0).
In nonleague boys’ tennis:
Canyon 10, Mission Viejo 8--Brian Batsel won, 6-2, 6-0, 6-2, for visiting Canyon (2-0).
Santa Ana Valley 13, Fairmont 5--Thanom Saiparmuk and Tuan Nguyen won, 6-1, 6-0, 6-1, in doubles for Santa Ana Valley (1-1).
Servite 10, Brea Olinda 8--Sophomore Pat Buchanan swept, 6-2, 6-1, 6-0 for host Servite (2-0).
Valencia 11, Buena Park 7--Fukko Daars won, 6-4, 7-5, 6-1, for Valencia (1-1).
In nonleague boys’ volleyball:
Cypress 3, Saddleback 0--Brian Morris had 11 kills and Jarrett Massey had 30 assists in the 15-13, 15-12, 7-15, 15-11 victory for Cypress (1-0).
El Dorado 3, Claremont 2--Nick Lehnert had 27 kills in El Dorado’s 16-14, 15-13, 6-15, 15-17, 15-9 win.
Mission Viejo 3, University 1--Jeff Taylor had 28 kills in Mission Viejo’s 15-9, 15-9, 12-15, 15-8 win.
Western 3, Canyon 2--Sophomore Ramsey Fiapai had 10 kills and Carlos Aguirre had 24 assists for host Western (1-0) in a 15-3, 10-15, 13-15, 16-14, 15-10 win.
Servite 3, Villa Park 0--Adrian Segalla had eight kills and Matt Reynolds had 32 assists in the 15-8, 15-1, 15-13 victory for Servite (1-0).
Valencia 3, La Quinta 0--Brian Bartczak had 12 kills for visiting Valencia (2-0), which won 15-11, 15-5, 15-7.
