*foot notes
Tuesday is California primary election day.*
Twenty-three candidates for president are listed on the California primary election ballot. Unlike previous years, this primary is open, meaning all the candidates are listed together and voters can cross party lines to vote for whomever they want. Some candidates on the ballot have already dropped out of the race, including Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch, real estate mogul Donald Trump, publisher Steve Forbes and conservative activist Gary Bauer.
* Besides John McCain (https://www.mccain2000.com), Al Gore (https://www.algore2000.com), George W. Bush (https://www.georgewbush.com), Bill Bradley (https://www.billbradley.com) and Alan Keyes (https://www.keyes2000.org), other familiar names are consumer advocate Ralph Nader (https://www.nader.org), 1980 presidential candidate John B. Anderson (https://www.draftanderson.org) and perennial candidate Lyndon LaRouche (https://www.larouchecampaign.com). Some familiar names are missing, most notably Reform Party founder Ross Perot (https://www.perot.org) and Pat Buchanan (https://www.gopatgo2000.com).
* Among the lesser-known candidates are John Hagelin of the Natural Law Party (https://www.hagelin.org), L. Neil Smith of the Libertarian Party (https://smith4prez.freeservers.com), Joel Kovel of the Green Party (https://www.greens.org/ny/kovel), Charles Collins of the Reform Party (https://www.collins2000.org) and Howard Phillips, listed on the California ballot under the American Independent Party (https://www.issues2000.org/Howard_Phillips.htm#Headlines).
* In full exertion of their 1st Amendment rights, a plethora of parody and adversarial Web sites aimed at Gore, Bush and other candidates is accessible on the Internet. One site, https://www.realchange.org, manages to have something bad to say about almost everybody. Others include https://www.gwbush.com; https://www.georgebush2000.com; https://www.bushlite.net; https://littlegeorgebush.com; https://www.allgore.com; https://www.algore-2000.org; https://www.albore.com; and https://www.nogore.org.
