New York salsa patriarch Larry Harlow does double duty this weekend, headlining the Conga Room tonight with his Latin Legends Band, then heading to the Irvine Barclay with the group to join singer-actor David Gonzalez in a show titled “Sofrito,” a compendium of folklore and contemporary stories from the Latin tradition.

The city of Long Beach’s Public Corp. for the Arts celebrates Smithsonian Week with three parties hosted by experts from the Washington, D.C., museum. Tonight is a Blues Party at the Blue Cafe, hosted by Russell Wilson, with Smokey Wilson and Linda Hopkins. Friday is the Mummies Party at the Queen Mary with David Hunt showing movie clips and a preview of the “Ghosts and Legends” exhibit. A Fiesta Party on Saturday at the Museum of Latin American Art will have mariachi bands, folkloric dancers and be hosted by fiesta expert Cynthia Vidaurri.

The TV programs are selected for artistic merit, cultural impact and historical significance. Some might dispute including “South Park,” along with “MASH” and “The Outer Limits,” but not the William S. Paley Television Festival, which is put on by the Museum of Television and Radio. “South Park” screens tonight with an appearance by Trey Parker and Matt Stone. The festival, which started Tuesday, continues through March 14.
