The City Council has amended the city code to allow skating and skateboarding in designated skating facilities.
The city is having a new skate park built at Richard T. Steed Memorial Park. City code still forbids skating outside the park.
The council also named the 14,000-square-foot park Ralphs Skate Park, after Ralphs Grocery Stores, which donated $100,000 to the project.
The facility is expected to open in the fall. Steed Park is at 247 Avenida La Pata.
