Stops Added for Bus Beach Service
Residents of Woodland Hills and Tarzana are now able to get to the beach by bus.
Los Angeles County’s beach bus service has been expanded to include stops in the two communities, beginning today.
Buses will shuttle beach-goers back and forth to Santa Monica, Will Rogers and Topanga state beaches from three stops on Ventura Boulevard: Reseda Boulevard, Winnetka Avenue and Topanga Canyon Boulevard. Beach buses have stopped at Topanga Canyon Boulevard since June 19.
Funding for the new stops was provided by the city of Los Angeles through the office of Councilwoman Cindy Miscikowski from money earmarked for youth and senior bus services.
“Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky got in touch with our office and offered to expand the existing beach bus services up to Ventura if we could pay for the funds, so we did,†said Glenn Barr, aide to Miscikowski.
“This is an inexpensive, fun way to get to and from the beach, and passengers can even take surfboards, coolers and beach chairs aboard the buses,†Barr said.
The one-way fare is 50 cents; 25 cents for ages 62 and older and the disabled. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Wheelchair accessible vans must be requested 48 hours in advance. For bus schedule and other details, call (888) 769-1122.
The beach bus service will continue until Sept. 4.
