Networks, Lighten Up

Re “KCBS Joins Network in Dropping TiVo Commercial,” by Brian Lowry, July 12):

The KCBS (and CBS) decision to not carry the clever and amusing TiVo spots lambasting network executives does little more than illustrate why for years CBS has been last in ratings (barring their current anomaly). When confronted by creativity, they panic; remember, this network stripped the Letterman show of humor.

My advice: Don’t take yourselves so seriously. It’s only television.

When I saw the headline I thought maybe the commercial was being dropped because of the violence. I’ve seen a lot of rather cruelly violent commercials lately in which wolves are set loose on a marching band and lions are set loose on body builders, and it’s all meant for laughs.

I guess networks only object to violence in commercials when it’s directed at their corporate officers.
