The Police Department’s Drug Abuse Resistance Education program has been suspended following the resignation of four police officers who have taken jobs with the Irvine Police Department. The program’s three remaining officers will be reassigned to patrol duties after a school graduation next month. The department, which has one of the nation’s lowest officer-resident ratios for a city of its size, is in the midst of heated salary negotiations. Bob Bowers announced his resignation as Garden Grove Police Assn. president this week, citing the toll negotiations have taken on his personal life.
