Quiet Debut, Renovations and a TV Role

Things I learned from my hairdresser this week: That hunka-hunka burning actor, Vince Vaughn, owns a restaurant on Wilshire Boulevard called the Continental--and it’s supposed to be quite swanky. It made a quiet debut in November, apparently. Then he told me that Rage, the famed West Hollywood gay night spot, began extensive renovations last year (using the same crew that revamped the Love Lounge into Factory/Ultrasuede), including adding a second floor. But they’re still tweaking design details. More surprisingly, Rage has become quite a meeting spot since recently opening for lunch. Nothing splashy on its menu--just the usual (ain’t nothing but chicken wings, salads and the like), but its disco ambience makes all the difference. Also, Jonathan Antin (who owns Jonathan A Beauty Shop, and is one of the 3 trillion investors in Coffee House, the 24-hour venue on the Sunset Strip), just got himself hooked up in prime time. The popular stylist’s got a recurring role in Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Fox vehicle, “Time of Your Life,†as Hugo, a handsome, well-connected hairdresser. So, basically he’s playing himself. . . . A little bee tells me 7969 in West Hollywood has hired designer Ricki Kline (North, Vynyl, Playroom, etc.) to re-create the Santa Monica Boulevard club, after a fire torched the sucker two weeks ago. . . . Art Davis, who owns Playroom and the Gate, threw a surprise birthday party Tuesday at his house for brother and co-owner, Allan Davis, for Allan’s big Hawaii 5-0. Man, their friends sure have great taste in cars. . . . Memo. Re: Calendar Weekend’s Jan. 6 cover story on hot club bands. To: All you A&R; cats who called me last week, pretending to care about my health or something. Text: Rest assured. I know who’s been naughty and nice, so go ahead and just ask for the phone numbers outright. . . . Dayle Gloria might be ready for her close-up sooner than you think. She’s already scored Buckcherry for her Jan. 17 installment of Scream 2000 at the Playroom.
