2 Teenagers Freed After Arrest in School Fire

SAN MARINO — Two teenagers arrested on suspicion of setting fire to San Marino High School were released Thursday after the district attorney’s office determined that there was not enough evidence to charge them with the crime.
Larry Yang, 18, of Arcadia and Lawrence Fu, 19, of Monterey Park were arrested after witnesses told police that they saw the two men fleeing the scene of Tuesday’s fire in a green Honda Civic.
But instead of charging the two with arson Thursday, Deputy Dist. Atty. Kathy Gentry ordered the teenagers released.
“I asked the police to get me some additional information,” said Gentry, adding that she was “not going to discuss any of the evidence in this case or anything that I requested the police to do.”
The early morning fire in the portable classroom was extinguished within 15 minutes. Investigators found several Molotov cocktails in the room.
