AT&T; Corp. will sell telephone service to customers of Cablevision Systems Corp., the largest cable television system in the New York City area, gaining access to more homes. Financial terms weren’t disclosed. Cablevision’s 2.8 million customers in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut who buy services from both companies will get free premium TV channels, movies and high-speed Internet connections, the companies said.
Under the plan, AT&T; customers in Cablevision’s region also will be able to sign up for service and can get free programming or Internet access. People who don’t use either company could subscribe to both and get the promotion. There are 1.2 million homes in Cablevision’s territory without cable service. On the New York Stock Exchange, AT&T; shares rose 50 cents to close at $46.88, while Bethpage, N.Y.-based Cablevision’s Class A shares rose 88 cents to close at $69.75.
