Power Surge Helps Cypress Win Two Tournament Games

Ryan Hubbard and Darrin Davis hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the second inning to help Cypress to a 9-5 victory over visiting Southwestern in a Cy-Coast Tournament baseball game Saturday.
Hubbard also had a triple and drove in three runs for Cypress (10-0).
Maurice Powell (2-0) got the victory in relief as he pitched five innings, giving up five hits and one run and striking out five.
Earlier, Cypress had 14 hits in a 13-1 victory over Sequoias.
In another tournament game:
Orange Coast 4, Treasure Valley (Ore.) 3--Brian Wahlbrink had a double and a home run for Orange Coast.
In the Riverside tournament:
Fullerton 12, St. Louis (Mo.) East Central 5--Eddie Romprey hit a home run in the first and Shawn Beutner had two hits and four runs batted in for the Hornets.
In the Casey Stengel tournament:
Saddleback 5, Los Angeles City 3--Jeff LaRue had two hits and an RBI for Saddleback, which scored two runs in the eighth to break a 3-3 tie.
In another game, Robbie Ogren pitched seven shutout innings, striking out seven, and Jud Richards, Vinnie Valiente and Jeff LaRue hit home runs as Saddleback (9-1) beat L.A. Valley, 17-0.
Santa Ana 8, Bakersfield 7--Host Santa Ana (10-0-1) scored twice in the ninth to win.
Justin Gerlach singled, went to second on a wild pitch and reached third on a balk. He scored the tying run when Michael Trevino singled to right field. Trevino then stole second and scored the winning run on a base hit by C.J. Wilson.
In the Apple Photography softball tournament:
Fullerton 16, Canyons 3 (6 innings, mercy rule)--Samantha Kimura had four hits and three RBIs for Fullerton (10-1).
Kimura and winning pitcher Angie Zeronesi (3-0) each hit doubles for the Hornets.
Santa Ana 3, Hancock 2--Sharmaine Kendrick and Ana Velasquez had two hits each and Erica Hammontree got her first save for Santa Ana (6-4), which also beat Grossmont 2-1 in eight innings. Wendi Kralich (6-3) won both games for Santa Ana.
Saddleback 5, Sacramento 2--Nicole Brunk had three RBIs for Saddleback (3-2-1), which also lost to Canyons, 1-0.
