Vanguard Edges Point Loma Nazarene in Baseball

James Dent hit a home run in the sixth inning to give visiting Vanguard a 3-2 victory against Point Loma Nazarene in Golden State Athletic Conference baseball Tuesday.
Joshua Case pitched eight innings, giving up only two hits for Vanguard (1-5, 1-3).
In nonconference baseball:
Chapman 2, Cal Lutheran 1--Chapman (2-0) scored its two runs in the second on an RBI triple by Pat Stevens and an RBI single by Tony Serna.
Starter Bobby Sunderland pitched eight innings to pick up the win on five hits.
Eric Albright pitched a scoreless ninth for the save.
In GSAC softball:
Vanguard 10, CS Dominguez Hills 6--Valerie Vanaken hit a grand slam in the fourth, Andrea Saucedo went five for five, scoring four runs for visiting Vanguard (2-5).
In Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s volleyball:
UC Irvine 3, UC San Diego 0--Ty Loomis had 19 kills and Erick Helenihi had 16 kills for host UC Irvine (5-7, 2-5), which won 15-3, 15-7, 15-8.
