Rio Mesa Clinches View From Top
Tom Saxey took a pass from Jimmy Heathcote and scored from 13 yards in the 25th minute Thursday to give Rio Mesa High a 1-0 victory over Camarillo at Rio Mesa to clinch its second consecutive Pacific View League boys’ soccer championship.
John Johnen made four saves in his first start in goal for the Spartans (13-8-3, 8-1-3), who have won three league championships in four years.
Johnen was filling in for regular goalie Alfredo Lira, who was ruled academically ineligible earlier this week.
Paraclete 3, Village Christian 0--Matt Hickman scored two first-half goals for the Spirits, who clinched the Alpha League title at Village Christian.
Reed Gacho made eight saves and recorded his second shutout of the season for Paraclete (13-3-3, 5-1-2).
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Verdugo Hills 2, Poly 0--Brenda Lazo and Shanda Marsh scored first-half goals for the Dons in a Sunset Six League game at Verdugo Hills.
Goalie Jenny Ramirez recorded her 10th shutout of the season for Verdugo Hills (11-4-1, 6-3-0).
Quartz Hill 2, Lancaster 0--Jaime Baynton and Andrea Cabriales scored the goals and the Rebels (17-1-2, 8-0-2) clinched their third consecutive Golden League title at Lancaster.
GIRLS’ WATER POLO
Harvard-Westlake 31, Marymount 5--Jeanine Jackson scored six goals for the Wolverines in a Mission League finale at Marymount.
Poloma Slezak, Cami Kliner, Rachel Burkons, Courtney Quinn and Emily Caeser each had five goals for Harvard-Westlake (23-4, 10-0), which outscored league opponents, 176-22.
