The City Council has unanimously approved a resolution supporting Measure F, the Safe and Healthy Communities Initiative, aimed at halting Orange County’s plan to convert the former El Toro Marine Corps Air Station into a commercial airport.
Measure F, which will appear on the March 7 ballot, would require that the county get two-thirds voter approval to build or expand jails within a half-mile of homes, landfills and airports.
The city has been a vocal opponent of the county’s plan because the airport’s proposed incoming flight pattern would run directly over Dana Point and Laguna Niguel.
