LeRoy J. Tucker; 71-Year County Resident
LeRoy J. Tucker, a retired heavy equipment operator, died at his home in Ventura on Tuesday. He was 80.
Tucker was born Aug. 30, 1919, in Osage City, Kan. His family moved to Ventura County when he was 9. He attended schools in Ventura, graduating from Ventura High School. He then served in the Army during World War II.
Tucker was a heavy equipment operator at the Port Hueneme Naval Construction Battalion Center for 35 years before he retired in 1981.
He was a member of Oxnard Elks Lodge No. 1443, the Prop Busters Boat Club and Bella Vita of Westlake. His favorite pastime was restoring classic cars.
Tucker is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gloria; a son, Joe of San Diego; a twin sister, Leona Nankervis of Fountain Valley, and a grandson, Sean Tucker of San Diego.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura, which is handling the arrangements.
Graveside services are scheduled at 1 p.m. Friday at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, with the Rev. George Reynolds of Our Lady of the Assumption Church officiating.
