Students to Tour Police Department
Fourteen Japanese exchange students will tour city police facilities Wednesday.
The students, ranging in age from 17 to 49, are participating in a two-week program to study English and American culture at Oxnard College while living with area host families..
The students will get a whirlwind look at the department’s culture and services, said Sgt. Martin Meyer, who will conduct the tour.
“Language is still a barrier, so we are going to try to dazzle their senses, showing them the dogs, the jail, the bike patrol and how that works,†Meyer said. “They’ll go out and tour the Police Department and the Fire Department so they can get a hands-on sense of what’s really going on here.â€
