A 36-year-old man was fatally injured Wednesday when his car hit the center divider and burst into flames on the San Diego Freeway in Seal Beach, authorities said.
The accident occurred about 3:30 p.m. when the man, a resident of Running Springs, near Lake Arrowhead, tried to pass a pickup traveling north just south of Seal Beach Boulevard, police said. The pickup clipped the man’s 1992 Plymouth, sending it into the divider, said Mark Reeves, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol.
A police officer and several motorists stopped and extricated the man from the burning car, but he died later at Los Alamitos Medical Center.
The man’s identity was not released Wednesday.
