A woman who allegedly shot her estranged husband in the neck in front of their daughter and grandchildren Christmas morning was charged with attempted murder and spousal abuse Wednesday, authorities said.
Arlene Lancelot Gabel, 66, of Henderson, Nev., brought a .22-caliber revolver with her to the holiday gathering at her daughter’s Huntington Beach home, Orange County district attorney’s office spokeswoman Tori Richards said.
Gabel allegedly shot her husband, Jerry Gabel, 62, of Long Beach, during an argument over the victim’s new girlfriend, Richards said.
Present were the Gabels’ daughter and her two children, ages 12 and 16.
Jerry Gabel was shot through the neck and jaw. He was discharged from UCI Medical Center in Orange on Tuesday.
Arlene Gabel had received the gun as a gift from the victim, Richards said, adding she didn’t know when he had given it to her.
She is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail, and is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 20.
